Wat is het verschil tussen verzinkt, thermisch verzinkt en gegalvaniseerd?

Alle drie zijn zinklagen op staal die roest tegengaan. Het verschil zit in hoe het zink wordt aangebracht, en dus in de dikte van de laag en hoe lang die meegaat.

  • Verzinkt - elektrolytisch aangebracht. Een dunne, gladde laag van ongeveer 5 tot 25 micron, licht glanzend zilvergrijs. Prima voor binnen en voor buiten onder lichte belasting.

  • Thermisch verzinkt - het product gaat in een bad met gesmolten zink van ongeveer 450 graden. Dat geeft een veel dikkere laag van 45 tot 85 micron, matgrijs en wat ruwer van structuur. Buiten gaat dit tientallen jaren mee.

  • Gegalvaniseerd - in de praktijk hetzelfde als elektrolytisch verzinken. Staat er geel of zwart gegalvaniseerd bij, dan is over het zink een passiveringslaag aangebracht die de kleur geeft en de bescherming iets verhoogt.



Vuistregel: binnen of droog gebruik is verzinkt ruim voldoende. Blijft het product permanent buiten staan, kies dan thermisch verzinkt. Bij zout water, chloor of blijvend vocht is roestvast staal (RVS) de betere keuze, want een zinklaag wordt daar op den duur alsnog aangetast.



Let op: zaag of boor je in verzinkt materiaal, dan is de zinklaag op die plek weg. Werk het snijvlak bij met zinkspray om roestvorming te voorkomen.
