If one of the links in your stainless steel chain suddenly breaks, you can quickly install a stainless steel emergency link on the other two links, so the stainless steel chain is fully functional again and can be used temporarily. Note: as the name "emergency link" suggests, this is a temporary fix, and it's advisable to buy a new link later. An emergency link is really meant for a quick repair, so there are no temporary problems with the chain.
